Sarah Seahorse

I’m Sarah Seahorse, a wearable artist, costume designer, and milliner based on Wurundjeri Country (Melbourne). With nearly two decades of experience across costume, fashion, theatre, and community arts, my work blends traditional making techniques with a playful, experimental approach to sustainability and storytelling.

Trained in Costume Design and Community Development, I create flamboyant, detail-driven pieces using recycled, found, and salvaged materials—turning discarded waste into high-impact costumes, sculptural headwear, and wearable installations.

From 2011 to 2020, I was the resident milliner and art finisher at Circus Oz, and I’ve worked behind the seams for The Australian Ballet, Opera Australia, Rightside Creative, and A Blanck Canvas. My designs have been featured in the Melbourne Fashion Festival Art Program, Midsumma Festival, Geelong Design Week, and Sydney Festival through collaborations with Melbourne based fashion collective Fast Fashun.

As a facilitator, I run hands-on, neurodivergent-friendly sewing and wearable art workshops for councils, festivals, youth hubs, libraries, and creative spaces. I’m passionate about creating inclusive environments where people can explore DIY fashion, creativity and self-expression outside traditional education models.

Whether I’m teaching a class, designing for stage, or building an entire look from landfill, I’m always chasing beauty, joy, and meaning through the act of making.
